Cymraeg - cliciwch yma July 2011 Wales Dance Platform / Llwyfan Dawns Cymru The first Wales Dance Platform was held on 1-3 July in Chapter and Wales Millennium Centre - and was a great success. More than 50 events by Wales-based dance artists ranged from site-specific public-space pieces and sharings of work-in-progress, to fully-tech-ed productions. The plan is for presenters and practitioners to keep the idea alive and make this a regular event… we’ll keep you posted with developments …... June 2011 Joanna Young’s PenGwyn (a dance-theatre piece inspired by the world of the penguin!) makes its last appearance as part of ‘Dance Shorts’ on Friday 3 June (7pm) at the Borough Theatre, Abergavenny – in the theatre’s foyer space, before a performance of Beauty and the Beast by Ballet Cymru (7.30pm).

March 2011 Report on the Welsh Theatre Symposium – What is the future for theatre in Wales Over 60 people were in attendance for this key Symposium at Theatr Brycheiniog in Brecon on 14th March. Hosted by The Theatres Trust, Creu Cymru and the Wales Association for the Performing Arts, those present considered potential ways forward for theatre in Wales. During the morning a series of presentations were given, from Martin Sutherland of the Royal & Derngate Theatre, Jonathan Petherbridge of London Bubble and Andrew Davies AM. This was followed by questions and debate, chaired by Theatre Director, Phil Clark. Following lunch an ‘Open Space Technology’ session took place, facilitated by Lucy Foster from Improbable Theatre. Participants were asked to identify topics that they wished to discuss and then to take responsibility for convening and recording group sessions which further explored their subject. Notes on each session and further details on the Symposium can be found at: February 2011 Welsh Theatre Symposium What is the future for theatre in Wales? The Welsh Theatre Symposium is an opportunity for theatre makers, theatre companies, producers, local authority and independent theatre, arts centre and venue operators, arts development officers, theatre marketing professionals and architects and those involved in theatre capital projects to meet and discuss the current and future state of theatre and theatre venues in Wales today. Using Open Space, the day has been designed to provide a place for the theatre sector to consider the question: What is the future for theatre in Wales? With much transition and change in the theatre scene we aim to identify, explore and address the most important issues, gather new ideas, resources and people, consider visions, themes, priorities, and next steps in order to answer this question. The afternoon will run as Open Space, facilitated by Lucy Foster of Improbable Theatre which runs the annual Devoted and Disgruntled event, giving anyone who attends the chance to propose a starting point for discussion, lead a discussion, take part in one of the conversations or move between them all. Open Space gives you the opportunity to talk about what angers you, what inspires you, what you are passionate about, and what action you’d like to see. You might want to look at the way theatre makers and venues might work together and share resources, collaborate artistically and behind the scenes; the new relationships between venues and their communities and theatre makers; if there are new models for venues as cultural producers and community hubs, and the future role of local authorities faced with reduced budgets. Our ideas… Your ideas… Around the question – What is the future for theatre in Wales? Tickets: £45.00 per person (£37.50 plus VAT), £25.20 concession (£21.00 plus VAT) (student, unwaged, over 60). Firstly, having been successful in two project bids to the Arts Council of Wales, and being in a position where there are sufficient funds in reserves to underpin the 2011/12 forecasts, Creu Cymru’s Board was able to agree a headline budget for next financial year. This budget allows for two full-time posts, or the equivalent, so Deborah Keyser’s and Yvonne O’Donovan’s employment is secured. With the buy-in and support of trustees and other co-opted Creu Cymru members, Deborah and Yvonne will be able to deliver the following, based on the project funding awarded: • Continuation of the ‘Inventive Promoter’ scheme, enabling support and collaboration among a group of 10 theatres and arts centres that share resourcing challenges We are confident that these steps will enable Deborah and Yvonne to continue to deliver what Creu Cymru does best: initiation, support and other assistance for collaborations and working practices that contribute to our ever-developing performance sector in Wales Nicolas Young, Chair, Creu Cymru Ionawr 2011 Creu Cymru yn symud ymlaen Yn dilyn cyfarfod Bwrdd Creu Cymru ddydd Mawrth 18 Ionawr, rwyf yn falch o allu rhoi’r diweddaraf i chi ynglyn â sefyllfa’r Cwmni a’i gynllun gweithgarwch ar gyfer y flwyddyn nesaf. The findings of the research will be used to inform the development of present and new collaborations, and will form the basis of an advocacy document to WAG, ACW and other potential funders. Rhowan will be in touch with all Creu Cymru members as she undertakes her research, plus attending many Creu Cymru meetings to observe collaborations at work. January 2011 New Year News Great news for Creu Cymru! The Arts Council of Wales have supported the two project applications – Mainline and Training – ending what seemed a long waiting game. The Mainline – ‘Keeping the Lights On’ – will allow us to continue to build on the success of the creative collaboration between those members involved in the Inventive Promoter project, and support the development of partnerships between non-RFOs within the Creu Cymru membership. The Training Grant recognises the importance of Creu Cymru’s ‘Go and See’ scheme and the role of the Art Form Consortia. These are both projects open to the whole membership that directly contribute to putting work on the stages of our members and bringing the sector together to share knowledge and expertise. The end of January will also see changes in working practice in response to our new funding status. Deborah Keyser and Yvonne O'Donovan will be spearheading Creu Cymru’s programme of work with support from specified Board and co-opted members – a base from which Creu Cymru can develop its future programming on a longer term and more sustainable basis. The Board are meeting on 18th January so there will be more detailed information about Creu Cymru’s future programme following that meeting. Newyddion i'r Flwyddyn Newydd Newyddion gwych i Creu Cymru! Mae’r Grant Hyfforddi’n cydnabod pwysigrwydd cynllun ‘Ewch i Weld’ Creu Cymru a rôl y Consortia Ffurfiau ar Gelfyddyd. Bydd y Bwrdd yn cyfarfod 18 Ionawr felly bydd gwybodaeth fanylach am ddyfodol Creu Cymru’n dilyn y cyfarfod hwnnw. December 2010 Creu Cymru staffing – post-Investment Review
The Board of Creu Cymru wish to express their thanks to Richard Hogger for the vision and passion that he brought to the emerging organisation, and for the fact that he leaves Creu Cymru in a strong and well respected position to continue to provide touring, professional development, co-production and other support. More details on the structures and contacts will be made available soon, as the award of a ‘Transition’ grant by the Arts Council of Wales enables us to implement necessary changes. Creu Cymru has two further significant project applications being assessed by ACW at present, and is about to embark on developing and implementing a new fundraising strategy. We are confident that we will secure a robust and purposeful future for Creu Cymru and that its important role will continue for many years to come. Rhagfyr 2010 Staffio Creu Cymru – Ar ôl yr Adolygiad Buddsoddi Ar ôl deng mlynedd wrth lyw Creu Cymru, mae’r Cyfarwyddwr, Richard Hogger, wedi penderfynu bod yr amser yn briodol iddo achub ar y cyfle i ddilyn prosiectau eraill. Mae’r Bwrdd Cyfarwyddwyr wedi rhoi ystyriaeth ddwys i hyn, ac maent wedi cytuno , er y bydd newid o ran personél ar yr adeg hon, yn peri ambell her i ni o ran rolau a chyfrifoldebau, mae derbyn ymddiswyddiad Richard yn agor y posibilrwydd o ganfod strwythur a model ariannol sy’n fwy hyblyg ac sy’n ymateb i’n hamgylchiadau presennol. Yn ein trafodaeth rydym wedi llunio cynllun a fydd yn cynnwys cyfraniad gan gyfarwyddwr Bwrdd wedi’i ategu gan aelodau cyfetholedig Creu Cymru. Rydym yn ffyddiog y bydd hyn yn rhoi’r gefnogaeth i Deborah Keyser ac Yvonne O’Donovan a fydd yn galluogi rôl arweinyddol a gwasanaethau Creu Cymru i gael eu cyflawni yn y ffordd sydd eu hangen ar yr aelodau a’r sector ehangach ac yn y modd y maent yn eu haeddu. Dymuna Bwrdd Creu Cymru ddiolch i Richard Hogger am yr weledigaeth a’r brwdfrydedd a gyfrannodd i’r sefydliad pan oedd yn dod i’r golwg ar y dechrau, ac am y ffaith ei fod yn gadael Creu Cymru yn sefydliad cryf a mawr ei barch i barhau i ddarparu teithio, datblygu proffesiynol, cydgynhyrchu a chefnogaeth arall. Bydd mwy o fanylion am y strwythurau a’r cysylltiadau ar gael cyn bo hir, wrth i grant ‘pontio’ gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru ein galluogi i weithredu newidiadau angenrheidiol. Mae dau gais arall gan Creu Cymru ar gyfer prosiectau sylweddol sy’n cael eu hasesu gan CCC ar hyn o bryd, ac mae Creu Cymru ar fin ymgymryd â datblygu a rhoi strategaeth godi arian newydd ar waith. Rydym yn hyderus y byddwn yn sicrhau dyfodol cadarn a phwrpasol i Creu Cymru ac y bydd ei rôl bwysig yn parhau am flynyddoedd lawer i ddod. Nicolas Young From Montreal - ‘LA FUGUE’ A compelling tale of life on the streets with live rock, rap and JS Bach! Touring Wales from 10 to 23 November An unlikely, but compelling combination of hard-hitting drama, live rock music, rap and JS Bach hits stages across Wales in November. La Fugue tells the story of teenage runaway Ioan. The mystery unfolds when his father is given a collection of his belongings from the police: each item the father examines comes to life, and the story of his son’s disappearance is gradually reconstructed, telling of the hardship, and the love, that he finds on the street
Stori afaelgar am fywyd ar y strydoedd gyda roc, rap a JS Bach yn fyw! Ar Daith yng Nghymru rhwng 10 a 23 Tachwedd Cyfuniad annhebygol ond gafaelgar o ddrama rymus, cerddoriaeth roc fyw, rap a JS Bach yn bwrw llwyfannau ar draws Cymru ym mis Tachwedd. Mae La Fugue yn adrodd hanes Ioan, bachgen yn ei arddegau sydd ar ffo. Mae’r dirgelwch yn datblygu pan fydd ei dad yn derbyn swp o’i eiddo gan yr heddlu. Mae pob eitem y mae’r tad yn ei archwilio’n dod yn fyw ac yn raddol mae hanes diflaniad ei fab yn cael ei ail-greu, gan sôn am y caledi a’r cariad y mae’n dod ar eu traws ar y strydoedd. News from Unit 12 - Creu Cymru Update October 2010
The Board met in mid-September with an Agenda that focussed on Creu Cymru 2011/12 and the project applications to be made to ACW. They agreed to work towards a year of change – using 2011/12 to plan long term projects and fundraise for a cohesive programme of activity for 2012 – 2015. Creu Cymru’s aim remains to focus on the presentation of high quality work on the stages of our membership across Wales, through collaboration, real time continuous professional development, and practical audience development initiatives. And we will be working in partnership with WAPA involving Welsh based companies and artists in all Creu Cymru projects. Nick Banwell and Geoff Cripps came to the end of their time as Directors (6 years) and the Chair thanked them for the major roles they had both played in the life of Creu Cymru. They were both invited to stay on as members of Working Groups (Nick – Finance and Investment Review and Geoff - Investment Review). Gill Ogden (Aberystwyth Arts Centre) and Louise Miles-Crust (Wales Millennium Centre) had been nominated and were appointed as new Directors from the AGM. Applications Creu Cymru has made applications to ACW in two key areas. We revisited our report, commissioned from Julie Turner, on those organisations across Wales that had particular issues of resources that affected programme and audience development. Our Mainline application links mentoring and programme support for them with the continuation of the Inventive Promoter Project. Creu Cymru’s Training Application is to support the continued development of the ‘Go and See’ scheme and opportunity for critical debate. It will focus more on the curated visits to festivals and include, for the first time, visits to those conferences where a report back will be of direct benefit to the wider membership. We are also discussing the draft of an application to the Transition Fund with ACW. This involves the development of a fundraising strategy for Creu Cymru (that might possibly be used as a model across the sector) and considering revising our working practice to further reduce the overheads. Thank you to those that have already sent letters of support. Thanks also go to Deborah and Yvonne and members of the Board (particularly the Chair and Nick Banwell) for the considerable amount of work involved in meeting the application deadlines. Conference Just a note on the Conference held at Caer Beris Manor on 6th October. Although there were fewer delegates this year – perhaps a sign of the times – we feel it was one of the best Creu Cymru Conferences so far. After the welcomes, the business started with two entertaining, thoughtful and provocative presentations from Charlotte Jones (Chief Executive of the ITC) and Jon Morgan (Director, Federation of Scottish Theatre). In one sense they were reassuring – everyone in the same boat even though the terminology might have been different; but in another challenging – identifying creative ways to move forward through collaboration, but in an ‘adult’ world, rather than that of parent and child. The need for mature, informed collaborative dialogue was at the forefront. Starting the afternoon Geinor Styles (Theatr Na n’Og) presented a witty, honest, personal view of both successful and unsuccessful collaborations and this was followed with break-out groups discussing the benefits (or not) of collaborations in a number of different areas. The business finished with Elen ap Robert (Creu Cymru Vice Chair) summing up the key moments and issues of the day. A full report on the Conference and the final conference papers will be published on the website soon. Newyddion o Uned 12 – Y Diweddaraf o Creu Cymru Hydref 2010 Ers fy adroddiad diwethaf, mae treigl amser wedi’i fesur gan lif parhaus y dyddiadau cau a digwyddiadau. Bwrdd Cyfarfu’r Bwrdd yng nghanol mis Medi gydag Agenda a oedd yn canolbwyntio ar Creu Cymru 2011/12 a’r ceisiadau prosiect i’w cyflwyno i CCC. Cytunwyd i weithio tuag at flwyddyn o newid – gan ddefnyddio 2011/12 i gynllunio prosiectau hirdymor a chodi arian ar gyfer rhaglen weithgareddau gydlynol ar gyfer 2012-2015. Amcan Creu Cymru o hyd yw canolbwyntio ar gyflwyno gwaith uchel ei safon ar lwyfannau ein haelodaeth ar draws Cymru, trwy gydweithredu, datblygu proffesiynol parhaus amser real a mentrau ymarferol i ddatblygu cynulleidfaoedd. Byddwn yn gweithio mewn partneriaeth â WAPA gan gynnwys cwmnïau ac artistiaid o Gymru yn holl brosiectau Creu Cymru. Daeth Nick Banwell a Geoff Cripps i ddiwedd eu cyfnod fel Cyfarwyddwyr (6 blynedd) a diolchodd y Cadeirydd iddynt am y rolau pwysig roeddent wedi’u chwarae ym mywyd Creu Cymru. Fe’u gwahoddwyd ill dau i aros ymlaen fel aelodau o Weithgorau (Nick – Cyllid ac Adolygu Buddsoddi a Geoff – Adolygu Buddsoddi). Roedd Jill Ogden (Canolfan y Celfyddydau Aberystwyth a Louise Miles-Crust (Canolfan Mileniwm Cymru (wedi’u henwebu ac fe’u penodwyd yn gyfarwyddwyr newydd trwy’r CCB. Ceisiadau Mae Creu Cymru wedi gwneud ceisiadau i CCC mewn dau brif faes. Aethom yn ôl i ailedrych at ein hadroddiad comisiwn gan Julie Turner, ar y sefydliadau hynny ar draws Cymru sydd â phroblemau penodol o ran adnoddau a oedd yn effeithio ar ddatblygu rhaglen a chynulleidfa. Mae ein cais Prif Linell yn cysylltu mentora a chefnogaeth o ran rhaglennu iddynt gan barhau â Phrosiect yr Hyrwyddydd Dyfeisgar. Byrdwn cais hyfforddiant Creu Cymru yw cefnogi parhau i ddatblygu’r cynllun ‘Ewch i Weld’ a’r cyfle i gael trafodaeth feirniadol. Bydd yn canolbwyntio’n fwy ar yr ymweliadau wedi’u curadu â gwyliau gan gynnwys, am y tro cyntaf, ymweliadau â’r cynadleddau hynny lle y bydd adroddiad yn ôl o fudd uniongyrchol i’r aelodaeth ehangach. Rydym hefyd yn trafod drafft cais i’r Gronfa Drosiannol â CCC. Mae hyn yn cynnwys datblygu strategaeth i godi arian i Creu Cymru (a allai o bosib gael ei defnyddio fel patrwm ar draws y sector) a hefyd ystyried diwygio ein hymarfer gweithio er mwyn lleihau ein gorbenion ymhellach. Diolch i’r rheini sydd eisoes wedi anfon eu llythyrau cefnogaeth. Diolch hefyd i Deborah ac Yvonne ac aelodau’r Bwrdd, yn enwedig y Cadeirydd a Nick Banwell am yr holl waith a oedd ei angen er mwyn cyrraedd dyddiadau cau’r ceisiadau. Cynhadledd Dim ond nodyn ar y Gynhadledd a gynhaliwyd ym Mhlasty Caer Beris 6 Hydref. Er bod llai o gynrychiolwyr eleni – un o arwyddion yr oes, efallai – teimlwn mai dyma un o’r cynadleddau gorau a gafwyd gan Creu Cymru hyd yn hyn. Ar ôl croesawu pawb, cychwynnodd y busnes gyda dau gyflwyniad difyr a oedd yn procio’r meddwl gan Charlotte Jones, (Prif Weithredwr yr ITC) a Jon Morgan (Cyfarwyddwr, Ffederasiwn Theatr yr Alban). Ar un wedd roeddent yn galonogol – pawb yn yr un cwch er bod y derminoleg yn wahanol, hwyrach, ond ar y llaw arall roeddent yn heriol – gan adnabod ffyrdd creadigol o symud ymlaen trwy gydweithredu, ond mewn byd ‘oedolion’ yn hytrach na byd ‘rhiant a phlentyn’. Roedd yr angen am ddeialog aeddfed a hyddysg yn dod i’r blaen o hyd. Ar ddechrau’r prynhawn bu Geinor Styles (Theatr n N’Og) yn cyflwyno golwg ffraeth, onest a phersonol ar gydweithrediadau llwyddiannus ac aflwyddiannus a dilynwyd hyn gan sesiynau grŵp i drafod manteision (neu anfanteision) cydweithrediadau mewn nifer o wahanol feysydd. Caewyd pen y mwdwl gan Elen ap Robert (Is-Gadeirydd Creu Cymru) drwy grynhoi uchafbwyntiau a phrif faterion y dydd. Cyhoeddir adroddiad llawn ar y Gynhadledd a’r papurau cynhadledd terfynol ar y wefan cyn bo hir. Richard Hogger, Cyfarwyddwr Creu Cymru Creu Cymru Conference Wednesday 6th October 2010 Creu Cymru’s 2010 Conference comes at a time of change for everyone and the theme concerns the way in which provision of the performing the arts is changing, particularly as a result of Investment and other reviews and the ways that theatres, arts centres and companies are responding. It will have a particular focus on collaboration in all its forms and we are therefore pleased to open the conference to members of WAPA. The keynote speakers in the morning will be Charlotte Jones (ITC) and Jon Morgan (Federation of Scottish Theatre) who will be outlining the position in England and Scotland. The afternoon will consider the opportunities for Wales, launched by Geinor Styles (Theatr na n’ Óg) and input from Creu Cymru and WAPA. This will be followed with breakout groups to consider the opportunities and benefits of collaboration and the routes to achieve a cohesive sector. We hope to hold a stimulating day that also offers networking opportunities between theatres and companies to build on the two previous Creu Cymru / WAPA Conferences. For Creu Cymru members the Conference will be preceded by Creu Cymru’s AGM at 10.15.am. An Agenda and papers will be available closer to the time. In previous years we have been able to offer the conference and catering free to delegates. This year we are asking for a fee of £20 per person to cover the costs of catering. Cynhadledd Creu Cymru Ddydd Mercher 6 Hydref 2010 Mae Cynhadledd Creu Cymru 2010 yn digwydd ar adeg o newid i bawb ac mae’r thema’n ymwneud â’r ffordd y mae darpariaeth y celfyddydau perfformio’n newid yn enwedig o ganlyniad i adolygiadau buddsoddi ac eraill a’r ffyrdd y mae theatrau, canolfannau celfyddydau a chwmnïau’n ymateb. Bydd yn canolbwyntio’n arbennig ar gydweithredu yn ei holl ffyrdd ac felly rydym yn falch o gael agor y gynhadledd i aelodau WAPA. Y prif siaradwyr yn y bore fydd Charlotte Jones (ITC) a Jon Morgan (Ffederasiwn Theatr yr Alban) a fydd yn amlinellu’r sefyllfa yn Lloegr a’r Alban. Yn y prynhawn ystyrir y cyfleoedd i Gymru, sy’n cael ei lansio gan Geinor Styles (Theatr na-n’Óg) gyda chyfraniad gan Creu Cymru a WAPA. Dilynir hyn gan sesiynau grŵp i ystyried cyfleoedd a manteision cydweithredu a’r llwybrau tuag at sicrhau sector cydlynol. Investment Review update 13 September 2010 A small working group of the Board and staff - Nic Young, Nick Banwell, Geoff Cripps, and Peter Harding has been meeting with Deborah, Yvonne and I over the summer to prepare our response to ACW’s Investment Review decision. We spent some time considering priorities, revising our Mission statement and focussing our work into the areas of sector leadership, creative collaborations and best practice. Practically these translate into projects in cpd, creative collaboration and programming and audience development. In terms of programme and audience development Creu Cymru will be applying for a Mainline Project grant to support the development of a pilot project with non Revenue Funded Organisations. You may remember that we commissioned a report from Julie Turner in 2008 to research this group within the sector. The proposed project will use that research as a base in developing this project. We are also applying for the provision of grant to deliver training to continue and develop the ‘go and see’ scheme. This has proved one of our most successful projects, directly informing programming and audience development across the sector. The application to the Transition Fund will focus on research into fund raising, increasing earned income and broadening our funding base and reviewing our working practice to include examining the possibility of home working. In the longer term we are aiming to work with ACW on applying for a three year project grant starting around January 2012. We are seeking clarification from ACW as to when the decision was taken to put Creu Cymru back on the Umbrella Bodies list? At the time of ACW’s Review of Umbrella Bodies it was agreed, rightly, that we did not meet the criteria. Our programme has become even more directly involved with producing and presenting performances since then. Thank you to all who have written to ACW on Creu Cymru’s behalf identifying the ways Creu Cymru has had a direct influence and impact on the work on your stages. It is important that we can prove to ACW that we are not just a service organisation. A reminder that Creu Cymru’s AGM and Conference will be held on Wednesday October 6th at Caer Beris Hotel. We look forward to seeing you there. Richard Y Diweddaraf am yr Adolygiad Buddsoddi 13 Medi 2010 Mae gweithgor bach sy’n cynnwys y Bwrdd a’r staff - Nic Young, Nick Banwell, Geoff Cripps, a Peter Harding - wedi bod yn cyfarfod â Deborah, Yvonne a fi dros yr haf i baratoi ein hymateb i benderfyniad CCC yn sgil yr Adolygiad Buddsoddi. Buom yn treulio peth amser yn ystyried blaenoriaethau, yn adolygu ein Datganiad Cenhadaeth ac yn canolbwyntio ar feysydd arweinyddiaeth y sector, cydweithrediadau creadigol ac arferion gorau. Yn ymarferol, mae’r rhain yn golygu prosiectau mewn datblygu proffesiynol parhaus, cydweithredu creadigol a datblygu rhaglenni a chynulleidfaoedd. Rydym hefyd yn gwneud cais am grant i ddarparu hyfforddiant i barhau a datblygu’r cynllun ‘ewch i weld’. Un o’n prosiectau mwyaf llwyddiannus yw hwn, sy’n llywio datblygu rhaglenni a chynulleidfaoedd yn uniongyrchol ar draws y sector. Bydd y cais i’r Gronfa Bontio’n canolbwyntio ar ymchwil i godi arian, cynyddu enillion ac ehangu ein sylfaen ariannu, ac ar adolygu ein harferion gwaith i gynnwys y posibilrwydd o weithio gartref. Yn y tymor hir rydym yn anelu at gydweithio ag CCC i wneud cais am grant prosiect tair blynedd a fydd yn dechrau tua mis Ionawr 2012. Diolch yn fawr i bawb sydd wedi ysgrifennu at CCC ar ran Creu Cymru gan nodi’r ffyrdd y mae Creu Cymru wedi dylanwadu ac effeithio’n uniongyrchol ar eich llwyfannau. Mae’n bwysig y gallwn brofi i CCC nad sefydliad gwasanaethu’n unig ydym. Rydym yn eich atgoffa y cynhelir CCB a Chynhadledd Creu Cymru ddydd Mercher 6 Hydref yng Ngwesty Caer Beris. Edrychwn ymlaen at eich gweld yno. Richard Investment Review Update, 18 August 2010 Following Creu Cymru's meeting with Arts Council Wales on 30 July the Staff/board Working Group meet at the beginning of this month to consider the various options for the future development of Creu Cymru. We considered a number of possibilities and we were all agreed that, at this stage, the worst case scenario of shutting our doors would not be considered. So, within a tight timescale, we are researching possible models of operation and preparing applications to the Transition, Mainline and Training pots. We aim to secure a Creu Cymru that can deliver in the areas of sector leadership, cpd and the continued support for and development of creative collaborations. However, we've not forgotten our advocacy role and are talking to ACW about how, as a sector we can participate in ACW's discussions in the other areas outlined in 'Renewal and Transformation...' - particularly relating to national touring, the creative producer for dance and strategic venue development. Alongisde the discussions about future programming and administration of Creu Cymru we are also seeking support from the membership in emphasising the effect Creu Cymru has had on the work of the sector and that one of its key roles is in the direct delivery of performance through producing and regularly commissioning touring through the various creative collaborations we support. Nick Banwell has already written to Arts Council Wales on behalf of the Inventive Promoter Group and over the next couple of weeks we shall be approaching you all for your support. Thank you for the support and offers of support we have had so far. Richard Diweddariad Adolygiad Buddsoddi, 18 Awst 2010Yn dilyn cyfarfod Creu Cymru â Chyngor Celfyddydau Cymru, 30 Gorffennaf, cyfarfu'r gweithgor staff/bwrdd ar ddechrau'r mis hwn i ystyried y gwahanol ddewisiadau o ran datblygu Creu Cymru yn y dyfodol. Rydym yn anelu at sicrhau bod Creu Cymru'n gallu cyflawni ym meysydd arweinyddiaeth sector, datblygu proffesiynol parhaus a pharhau i gyflenwi a datblygu cydweithrediadau. Buom yn ystyried nifer o bosibiliadau ac roeddem yn gytûn, ar hyn o bryd, na fyddai'r posibilrwydd gwaethaf, sef cau ein drysau, yn cael ei ystyried. Felly, o fewn amserlen dynn, rydym yn ymchwilio i'r posibiliadau ar gyfer modelau gweithredu gan baratoi ceisiadau i'r cronfeydd Pontio, Prif Linell a Hyfforddiant. Fodd bynnag, nid ydym wedi anghofio ein swyddogaeth eiriolaeth ac rydym yn siarad â CCC ynglŷn â sut, fel sector, y gallwn gyfranogi yn nhrafodaethau CCC mewn meysydd eraill a amlinellir yn Adfywio a Thrawsffurfio... - yn enwedig o ran teithio'n genedlaethol, y cynhyrchydd creadigol ym myd dawns a datblygu canolfannau'n strategol. Ochr yn ochr â'r trafodaeth am raglennu a gweinyddu Creu Cymru yn y dyfodol rydym hefyd yn ceisio cymorth gan yr aelodau wrth bwysleisio'r effaith y mae Creu Cymru wedi'i chael ar waith y sector ac mau un o'i swyddogaethau allweddol yw cyflenwi perfformio'n uniongyrchol trwy gynhyrchu a chomisiynu teithiau rheolaidd trwy'r gwahanol fentrau creadigol cydweithredol y byddwn yn eu cefnogi. Mae Nick Banwell eisoes wedi ysgrifennu at Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru ar ran y Grŵp Hyrwyddwyr Dyfeisgar a thros yr wythnos neu ddwy nesaf bydd yn dod i gysylltiad â chi am eich cefnogaeth. Diolch yn fawr am y gefnogaeth a chynigion o cefnogaeth rydym wedi'u derbyn hyn yn hyn. Richard Creu Cymru's Meeting with the Arts Council of Wales, 30 July 2010 Investment Review - Creu Cymru Meeting with the Arts Council of Wales Nic Young (Chair), Elen ap Robert (Vice-Chair) and I met with Amanda Loosemore, Kath Davies and Sian Griffiths last Friday. Since the decision to take Creu Cymru out of the portfolio of Revenue Funded Organisations, the Board and Staff have taken a positive approach to trying to ensure the future work of Creu Cymru and this was welcomed by ACW. Following ACW’s response to our Business Plan we started by making four clear statements to clarify Creu Cymru’s position: • Creu Cymru is directly involved in front line delivery, acting as a commissioner, producer and co-producer, with the added benefit of being able to work through creative collaboration involving programme choice and audience development initiatives. • Creu Cymru is the only provider of real time continuous professional development, linked to programme choice, promotion and audience development. • Creu Cymru is an initiator and broker of creative collaborations that focus on quality, efficiency and economy. • As an independent organisation Creu Cymru has the ability to work with the sector to achieve outcomes different to those from ACW or individual venues’ initiatives. ACW were clear that they felt there was still an important role for Creu Cymru. They identified the areas of our work that matched their priorities as sector leadership, creative collaborations, professional development, support for the non-RFO’s, critical debate and information flow – all areas where we have a proven track record. The delivery of those areas through a project based approach is clearly possible. However, there is still some way to go in achieving a sustainable future for Creu Cymru through project funding and we have started considering the options open to us. The Board and staff will be working on a clear project based programme over the summer and will keep you informed of progress. We feel that it was as positive a meeting as it could have been under the circumstances and that Creu Cymru remains in a strong position to work in partnership with ACW on continuing development in those areas they have identified and that they will be as supportive as possible in helping us achieve the potential changes in operation that are required to achieve that. Have a good summer Adolygiad buddsoddiad ‐ Cyfarfod Creu Cymru gyda Cyngor Celf Cymru Gorffennaf 30 yn Caerfyrddin Adroddiad gan Richard Hogger, Cyfarwyddwr Creu Cymru Fe wnaeth Nic Young (Cadeirydd), Elen ap Roberts ( is‐gadeirydd) a Fi gyfarfod Amanda Loosemore, Kath Davies a Sian Griffiths Dydd Gwener ddiwethaf. Ers y penderfyniad i dynnu Creu Cymru o’r portffolio Refeniw Cyllid Cronfeydd, mae’r bwrdd a’r staff wedi mabwysiadu dull positif er mwyn sicrhau dyfodol i waith Creu Cymru, ac fe gafodd hyn ei chroesawu gan ACW. Yn dilyn ymateb ACW i ein cynllun busnes fe gychwynnwn drwy wneud pedwar datganiad clir i egluro safle Creu Cymru: • Mae Creu Cymru yn ymglymedig yn uniongyrchol gyda’r rheng flaen o drosglwyddo, yn gweithredu fel comisiynwyr, cynhyrchydd a chyd‐gynhyrchydd, gyda’r buddiant ychwanegol o allu gweithio drwy gydweithio creadigol yn cynnwys dewisiad rhaglen a mentrau datblygu cynulleidfa. • Creu Cymru yw’r unig ddarparwyr o ddatblygiad proffesiynol parhaol amser real. • Brocer a dechreuwyr o gydweithio creadigol yw Creu Cymru sydd yn ffocysu ar ansawdd, effeithlonrwydd ar economi. • Fel sefydliad annibynnol mae Creu Cymru wedi gallu gweithio gyda’r sector i gyflawni canlyniadau gwahanol i ACW a mannau cyfarfod mentrau unigol. Credai ACW yn gryf fod yna swyddogaeth bwysig i Creu Cymru hyd heddiw. Yr oeddent wedi adnabod meysydd ein gwaith bob sector o’n gwaith i gyd‐fynd gyda’i blaenoriaethau mewn arweinyddiaeth sector, cydweithio creadigol, datblygiad proffesiynol, cefnogaeth ar gyfer unigolion sydd ddim yn rhan o’r RFO, dadl gritigol a llif gwybodaeth ‐ pob ardal ble mae record lwyddiannus wedi bod. Trosglwyddo o’r ardaloedd ble mae prosiect seiliedig yn glir. Fodd bynnag mae dal ffordd i fynd er mwyn cyflawni dyfodol cynaliadwy i Creu Cymru drwy brosiect trawsgronni, hefyd rydym wedi dechrau meddwl am yr opsiynau sydd yn agored i ni. Bydd y bwrdd a staff yn gweithio ar brosiectau clir dros yr haf a byddwn yn cadw chi yn wybodus. Rydym yn teimlo fod y cyfarfod wedi bod mor bositif â su bosib o dan yr amgylchiadau a bod Creu Cymru yn aros yn bositif i weithio gydag ACW ar ddatblygiadau parhaol yn yr ardaloedd maent wedi nodi a bod mor gefnogol â su bosib drwy helpu ni i gyflawni newidiadau mewn gweithrediadau gofynnol sydd yn galluogi ni i gyflawni hyn. Mwynhewch eich haf ACW’s Investment Review and Creu Cymru Thanks to all those that have called, written or e-mailed us with your offers of support since the Investment Review announcement on 29th June. ACW’s decision to remove Creu Cymru from the portfolio of Revenue Funded Organisations was extremely disappointing. We had, however, been picking up hints that it was in the pipeline, so the Board had already started considering options for our future development. Since the announcement, we have been reviewing and focussing our Mission and are identifying the ways we can fulfil our core role: to work with our members to develop a vibrant, progressive and sustainable sector of theatres and arts centres for the people and communities of Wales. Our initial meeting with ACW takes place on July 30th and we will be seeking clarification of the gaps in provision that have been created by the Investment Review and the strategic areas identified in the Renewal and Transformation document. We feel that Creu Cymru’s existing programme and expertise places the organisation in a strong position to work in partnership with ACW on achieving their identified aims and strategies – and we’ll keep you posted as our discussions advance. Richard Hogger. Adolygiad Buddsoddi CCC a Creu CymruDiolch i bawb sydd wedi galw, ysgrifennu neu anfon e-bost atom yn cynnig cefnogaeth ers cyhoeddiad yr Adolygiad Buddsoddi ar Fehefin 29. Roedd penderfyniad CCC i ddiddymu Creu Cymru o'r portffolio o Sefydliadau sy'n cael Cyllid Refeniw yn siomedig dros ben. Wedi dweud hynny, roeddem wedi cael awgrymiadau ei fod ar y gweill, felly roedd y Bwrdd eisoes wedi cychwyn ystyried opsiynau ar gyfer ein datblygiadau i'r dyfodol. Ers y cyhoeddiad rydym wedi bod yn adolygu ac yn canolbwyntio ar ein Cenhadaeth ac adnabod ffyrdd y gallwn gyflawni ein swyddogaeth graidd: i weithio gyda'n haelodau i ddatblygu sector o theatrau a chanolfannau celfyddydau dirgrynol, blaengar a chynaliadwy i bobl a chymunedau Cymru. Mae ein cyfarfod cychwynnol gyda CCC yn cymryd lle ar Orffennaf 30ain a byddwn yn chwilio am eglurhad o'r bylchau mewn darpariaeth a grëwyd gan yr Adolygiad Buddsoddi a'r meysydd strategol adnabuwyd yn y ddogfen Adnewyddu a Thrawsnewid. Teimlwn fod rhaglen bresennol Creu Cymru a'i arbenigedd yn gosod y sefydliad mewn sefyllfa gref i weithio mewn partneriaeth gyda CCC i gyflawni eu nodau a strategaethau canfyddedig - a byddwn yn gadael i chi wybod fel mae'r trafodaethau yn symud ymlaen. Despite this, we will be working hard to make sure that we continue to work to develop a vibrant, progressive and sustainable sector of theatres and arts centres for the people and communities of Wales. The Board will be meeting very soon to discuss options, and has every intention of ensuring the excellent achievements of the past eight years are sustained and further developed in one way or another. ’Rydym yn siomedig nad yw’r cyfraniad sy’n cael ei wneud gan Greu Cymru ac yn bwysicach, y cyfraniad y bwriadwyd ei wneud yn y dyfodol tuag at raglennu proffesiynol theatrau a chanolfannau celf yng Nghymru, wedi cael ei gydnabod gan Gyngor Celfyddydau Cymru yn ei gyhoeddiad Adolygu Buddsoddiad presennol. Er gwaethaf hyn, byddwn yn parhau i weithio’n galed er mwyn datblygu sector bywiog, cynyddol a chynaladwy o theatrau a chanolfannau celf ar gyfer pobl a chymunedau Cymru. Bydd y Bwrdd yn cyfarfod yn fuan iawn i drafod opsiynau, gyda’r llawn fwriad o sicrhau bod cyflawniadau rhagorol yr wyth mlynedd diwethaf yn cael eu cynnal ac yn cael eu datblygu ymhellach mewn un ffordd neu’r llall. |
