Distance Arts Programmer

Span Arts, a community arts charity based in Narberth, Pembrokeshire is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and exceptional individual to become our Distance Arts Programmer to develop and deliver Art at a Distance; an online socially distanced artistic programme to reduce isolation and loneliness, alleviate fear, stress and boredom, build community networks and communications until 31st December 2020.

Art at a Distance will build the organisation’s resilience and capacity to weather this most difficult time and is in line with our vision to make Art as Social Change in Rural Wales and to capitalize on the power of the arts to make people feel better.

The post will work closely with the Span Arts Director to develop and deliver an inclusive and accessible online programme for the people of Pembrokeshire.  The Distance Arts Programmer will plan, prepare and develop projects and events in readiness for restarting normal operations whilst maintaining our public profile.

Job Title:  Distance Arts Programmer

Responsible to:  Span Arts Director

Location:  Home based until Covid 19 restrictions are lifted then office based in Narberth

Salary:  £6,547 for 5 month contract, 25 hours per week / 1st August – 31st December 2020 / (FTE £22,000 p.a. based on a 35 hour week)

Working hours:  25 hours per week – spread over 4 to 5 days by arrangement / Some evening and weekend work will be required

Term:  Temporary (Immediate start desirable)

Holiday entitlement:  5.6 weeks (28 days) per annum pro rata including Bank Holidays

Funded by:  The Arts Council of Wales

Board Member / Trustee Role Description and Skill Set

Board Position Summary:  The Board will support the work of Span Arts and provide leadership and strategic governance.  While day-to-day operations are led by Span’s Director, the Board-Director relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is both critical and expected.

Individual Member Position:  Responsible, in partnership with other Board members and the Director and her/his team of staff, to lead the organization through implementation of the Span strategic business plan and by performing fiduciary, strategic and policy responsibilities.

Term:  The Charity Commission endorses the recommended good practice set out in the Charity Governance Code that there should be a time limit of 9 years on Trustee tenure.

Span has therefore adopted a term of 3 years for Board Members / Trustees, which may be renewed for two further terms to a maximum of nine years.

Any Board member / Trustee who has served for more than this term will be asked to step down from the Board to ensure maximum diversity of views and for new skills to be sought.
