This sub-group of presenting organisations is made up of Creu Cymru members who in one way or another face challenging circumstances in terms of their resources, this could be financial (they are only project funded by ACW not regularly funded) they could be located in areas of social deprivation, or they may be working with very limited staffing resources). Some members of this group are regularly funded by the Arts Council of Wales but face challenges from some of these other areas.
Originally the Inventive Promoter group was established through a three year project funded by the Paul Hamlyn Foundation to develop new and innovative working practices based upon collaboration and sharing. At this time there were eleven theatres and arts centres in the group based mainly in the old South Wales industrial areas but also extended to include Abergavenny to the East and Wyeside Arts Centre in Mid Wales. Today there are eighteen theatres in the group from coastal towns such as Porthcawl and Port Talbot to the South Wales valleys and on to Narberth in the West.
Shared working remains at the heart of their practice with programmers and marketers invited to all meetings to share ideas. The group has focused on the development of work for children and family audiences and has engaged in an audience development research project with Jo Taylor from Morris Hargreaves McIntyre on their Audience Segmentation system, Culture Segments.
Over the years members of this group such as Pontardawe Arts Centre, Blackwood Miners’ Institute and Rhondda Cynon Taff Theatres, have regularly engaged in co-producing relationships with companies and artists from England and Wales, this has led to work frequently being toured across the country.
There is also regular attendance on curated visits where members see work together and share their thoughts and ideas, understanding and trust and from these activities work is often selected to tour across Wales.
The group is chaired by Angela Gould from RCT Theatres. Meetings are held quarterly and are rotated amongst members of the group.
