Blackwood Miners’ Institute

Blackwood Miners’ Institute is located in the South East Valleys of Wales and the presence on Blackwood’s busy high street places it at the heart of the community, presenting a variety of arts & entertainment events including well-known household names from the world of music and light entertainment. Previously a Miners’ Welfare Institute built in 1925 with Miners’ contributions, it was refurbished and reopened in February 1992. It currently presents approximately 150 professional and amateur live events every year to nearly 30,000 people, in addition to over 1,200 annual workshops and classes.

• Theatre: Main theatre performance space with flexible seating up to 395 (or 550 standing)
• Lower Bar: Bar/Studio performance space with flexible seating up to 120 (or 250 standing)
• The building also has a bar, dance studio and function room.
• A wide range of professional live events including drama / plays, live music (popular, rock, jazz, folk, world, blues, country, classical), contemporary dance, ballet, opera, light entertainment, stand-up comedy, literature, pantomime, children’s theatre and family events. Amateur and community events include local brass / silver bands, choirs, amateur dramatics and operatics, schools concerts, and youth theatre productions.
• The venue hosts a programme from September to June, this is booked approximately 9 – 12 months in advance.
