Galeri, Caernarfon

Galeri, a £7.5m Creative Enterprise Centre located at Caernarfon’s Victoria Dock area, opened in March 2005. It houses a 395-seat theatre, two large rehearsal studios, art space, café bar, conference facilities, rooms for hire and workspace units, which is home to 16 resident companies (whom all work within the creative industries).

Galeri offers a varied and exciting programme of artistic events throughout the year. The centre can stage small-mid scale productions and regularly programme dramas (Welsh and English), music, dance, films, comedy nights, “an evening with” events, literature, workshops, visual arts as well as giving local children/young people and community groups an opportunity to perform in a professional theatre.
Performance Spaces:
Galeri’s main space with 395 seats (66 of which are restricted view seats). Several professional companies have performed at Galeri including Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru, Bara Caws, Mappa Mundi, Arad Goch and Music Theatre Wales. The seats in the stalls can be retracted – leaving a clear floor suitable for in the round performances, traverse events, “cabaret” style evenings or a stand-up concert. The theatre is also used on a weekly basis as Galeri’s cinema (35mm projector).
Studio 1
The ground floor studio is an ideal location for rehearsals, workshops and smaller events/concerts. The studio can seat up to 100 people (or 60 cabaret style). The total floor area is
113m2 . The studio is also regularly used for meetings, conferences and classes.
Stiwdio 2
This is the main space outside of the theatre that is used for events. With a “mezzanine” area outside the studio doors overlooking the DOC Café Bar. Capacity is up to 100 people (up to 50 cabaret style). Floor space 101m2.
DOC Café Bar
The Café Bar area can easily be used for local bands to perform, literature evenings or comedy nights (anything less ‘formal’). DOC offers fresh local produce with a varied choice for vegetarians and other diets.
Art Space
Galeri’s exhibition space. The Art Space is a platform for young up-and-coming artists, students from the local area and established artists to exhibit their work. There are usually six different exhibitions every year, for periods of up to six weeks each.
